The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and Airbus Public Safety and Security have entered into a pivotal agreement to deliver system equipment and support services for RAKEL, Sweden’s national TETRA-based Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) network. This collaboration ensures the continued reliability and development of the RAKEL system until its transition to 5G technology is completed in 2030.

Ronny Harpe, Operations Manager for RAKEL and Management Systems at MSB, expressed confidence in the agreement: "The new partnership with Airbus reinforces our commitment to maintaining the high robustness, availability, and ongoing development of RAKEL until we are ready to transition to 5G technology."

Similarly, Olivier Koczan, Head of Public Safety and Security at Airbus, highlighted the significance of the collaboration in supporting Sweden’s critical communication infrastructure.

Effective from April 1, 2025, the agreement covers the provision of TETRA-based equipment and services essential for RAKEL’s operations. This move underscores the importance of sustaining the network’s robustness and availability, ensuring seamless communication for user organizations across Sweden during the migration to mission-critical broadband services.

"Strong partnerships like this are vital for delivering reliable services to our user organizations. We are proud to have achieved this milestone and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts," Harpe added.
