Teltronic organized the event “5G and MCX in Action: Practical Insights for FRMCS and Rail Digitalization,” held within the framework of Rail Live!. The event aimed to showcase practical use cases of broadband networks and MCX technology in transportation environments, illustrating how certain applications are transforming railway systems, including medium- and long-distance trains, freight trains, subways, and trams.

Around 70 attendees witnessed reliable train-to-ground communications for voice services and video transmission through 5G.

Teltronic deployed a full-featured TETRA, 4G, and 5G communication network with a control center operator (CeCoCo) on-site. Meanwhile, from a tram operating through the streets of Zaragoza, various types of video calls and calls (group, emergency, etc.) were conducted using MCX technology, both with the control center and other terminals. The event also demonstrated interoperability with other technologies like TETRA.

Additionally, examples were presented on how real-time AI applications are advancing the concept of autonomous driving, enabling obstacle detection on tracks, anticipating infrastructure improvement needs, and analysing passenger behavior, among other functionalities.

To harness the potential of these applications, private 5G systems are required to ensure the highest levels of availability, offer the fastest data transmission rates, and achieve the lowest latencies. These networks are essential for completing the digitalization of rail transport, which will significantly enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Trains and railway infrastructure are generating increasingly vast amounts of data, and the transmission, processing, and analysis of this data will be crucial in the future. Predictive maintenance, digital twins, and similar technologies are multiplying the possibilities for ensuring seamless operations, anticipating potential issues, and reducing costs.

The session also detailed Teltronic’s progress in developing MCX technology and its application in transportation environments as part of its journey toward FRMCS. Additionally, advancements in MoySEST were highlighted, a project aimed at promoting and accelerating the digital transformation of the railway sector in Spain.
