Lisbon, Portugal — September, 2026 — SIRESP, S.A. has launched preparations for the 4th SIRESP Bootcamp – North Region, scheduled to take place from November 23–27, 2026, bringing together Portugal’s public safety, emergency response, technology and critical communications ecosystem.

Two preparatory meetings were held in Lisbon at the Order of Engineers – Southern Region, whose facilities hosted the events.

The day opened with a meeting involving Amateur Radio Associations, focused on presenting the Bootcamp and exploring opportunities for participation, including the community’s potential contribution to the final exercise.

At 11:00 a.m., SIRESP held the Initial Planning Conference (IPC), where Lieutenant-General Paulo Viegas Nunes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIRESP, S.A., presented the strategic guidelines for the fourth edition. The conference brought together representatives from operational organisations, municipalities, industry, network operators, technology companies and higher education institutions.

SIRESP Innovation Challenge 2026

The IPC also featured the launch of the SIRESP Innovation Challenge 2026, presented by Professor Luís Correia of Instituto Superior Técnico.

Targeting higher education students, the initiative is designed to connect academic expertise with real-world challenges in critical communications, encouraging participants to develop innovative approaches that can enhance resilience, interoperability and emergency response capabilities.

The challenge aims to transform academic knowledge into practical proposals while encouraging the next generation to contribute to the evolution of mission-critical communications.

North Region Bootcamp to Span Six Locations

The 4th SIRESP Bootcamp – North Region will take place across Braga, Guimarães, Bragança, Chaves, Viana do Castelo and Vila Real, involving stakeholders from the local, regional and national SIRESP ecosystem.

Across the five-day programme, participants will engage in training, knowledge exchange, technology demonstrations and operational exercises, with particular emphasis on the “Digital Blackout 26” scenario.

The exercise is intended to bring different stakeholders together around realistic critical communications challenges, supporting collaboration and preparedness across Portugal’s public safety and emergency response ecosystem.

SIRESP is inviting students, operational entities, companies and other partners to participate in the initiative and contribute to the development of future-ready critical communications capabilities.
