RFI Technology Solutions has partnered with South Australia Police (SAPOL) to deliver a major upgrade to its in-vehicle communications capability, strengthening officer safety and operational effectiveness across the state.

Building on a long-standing partnership, RFI is supporting the rollout of the Pyramid Guardian In-Vehicle Repeater (IVR) system across the SAPOL fleet. The upgrade replaces end-of-life equipment with modern, high-performance technology designed to extend UHF radio coverage, particularly in regional and remote areas of South Australia.

Enhancing Critical Communications

SAPOL relies on clear and consistent UHF communications to support rapid response and maintain public safety. The upgrade addresses key operational challenges, including maintaining uninterrupted communications during fleet-wide installation and ensuring reliable coverage in diverse and remote environments.

The new IVR solution significantly improves radio performance by enabling officers to communicate via their portable radios through the vehicle’s mobile radio when operating outside the vehicle—critical in areas where portable radio coverage alone may be limited.

While the SAGRN has excellent coverage, there are locations where the vehicle radio has coverage but the portable does not. The IVR allows officers to maintain communication when outside the vehicle, which is critical for safety and operations.”

Strong Partnership and Ongoing Support

RFI supplied the Pyramid Guardian Vehicle Repeater System as the foundation of the upgrade, working closely with the SAPOL Radio & Technology Support Unit, which is responsible for installation across the fleet. Approximately 10–12 personnel are supporting the rollout.

Installation is already underway, with the full upgrade program expected to be completed over approximately two years. RFI will continue to provide technical support throughout the project, reinforcing its commitment to delivering reliable, mission-critical communications solutions for Australia’s public safety agencies.
