On September 26th 2025, the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and TDIA (Telecommunication Development Industry Alliance) successfully co-hosted a Global Workshop in Shenzhen, focused on 5G-Advanced & 6G Device Technology and Certification, and specifically on the Opportunities and challenges on the 3GPP Roadmap to 6G.
This seminar brought together first-class certification laboratories, SoC manufacturers, device manufacturers and mobile operators from all around the world to discuss how GCF can promote the industrialization of global standards by improving the certification system, provide support for the industrialization of global wireless communication standards, and help promote development of the mobile communication industry maintaining high-quality standards. Nearly 100 experts from more than 50 companies attended the meeting in person, with a strong presence of delegates from China.
TDIA (Telecommunications Development Industry Alliance): Mr. Yang Hua
Yang Hua, Secretary General of TDIA (Telecommunication Development Industry Alliance) , highlighted in his presentation that 5G-Advanced has already been deployed on a large scale, benefiting more than 10 million users, and the launch of 6G standardization has great potential despite facing technical and industrial synergy challenges. In the future, TDIA will deepen cooperation with GCF, focus on 6G R&D and standard collaboration, solve problems, build consensus to promote the high-quality development of the global communications industry.
Global Terminal Certification Forum (GCF): Mr. Lars Nielsen
Lars Nielsen, Director General of Global Certification Forum (GCF) , presented the GCF certification ecosystem and its organizational structure, and invited companies to participate in international certification for communication technologies and align with global standards.
TDIA (Telecommunications Development Industry Alliance): Mr. Xiaozhong Chen
Mr. Xiaozhong Chen, vice-chair of 3GPP RAN 5 representing CATT (China Academy of Telecommunications), moderated the sessions on "5G Advanced standards, deployment and 3GPP roadmap to 6G and “Certification and Testing Technology” in representation of TDIA (Telecommunication Development Industry Alliance)
China Mobile Research Institute: Dr. Danni Song
Dr. Danni Song of China Mobile Research Institute highlighted China Mobile's 5G construction achievements, 5G-A technology innovation and applications, and 6G development ideas, pointing out that the 6G architecture design needs to meet the principles of flexibility and efficiency, and introduce new AI nodes to support data collection, computing resource management, distributed machine learning and other functions. At the same time, focusing on key technical directions such as MIMO, multi-carrier, deep coverage, spectrum sharing, and LPWA, 6G technology solutions and development visions are put forward to help the coordinated evolution of the global communications industry.
Global Terminal Certification Forum (GCF): Mr. Carlos Pedraz
Mr. Carlos Pedraz, Head of Business Development at Global Certification Forum (GCF) presented in detail the scope of GCF certification, the progress of 5G-Advanced certification, and the evolution plan towards 6G. He pointed out that GCF has prioritized 5G-Advanced evolution, development of Broadband Mission Critical services, NTN narrowband access and other areas, and will promote conformance testing as needed for these technologies.
Carlos moderated also the session on “5G Advanced key features and applications”.
Xiaomi Communications: Dr. Yi Guo
Focusing on the theme of "Terminal-Centric Key Features in 5G Advanced ", Dr. Yi Guo of Xiaomi Technology introduced the key features and future development directions of LP-WUS, eRedCap, Ambient IoT, XR, NTN, AI, and ISAC technologies from a device perspective.
ASR Microelectronics: Mr. Di Long
With the theme of "5G Redcap: Beyond IoT – Bringing 5G to diverse use cases", ASR Microelectronics Mr. Di Long focused on the R&D and commercialization process of 5G RedCap SoCs, and highlighted its growing presence in multiple IoT scenarios and expansion to new application scenarios.
Hytera Communications: Mr. Kai Cheng
Mr. Kai Chen. Senior Solutions Manager at Hytera presented key trends in communication technologies for Mission Critical and detailed Hytera solutions for Mission Critical and other business applications.
China Unicom Research Institute: Mrs. Yu Shi
Mrs. Yu Shi, Chief Researcher at the Pan-Terminal Research Center of China Unicom Research Institute, explained the evolution of Satellite Internet technology, China Unicom's practical achievements, and the requirements and prospects of 6G Non Terrestrial Networks on her presentation about "Satellite Internet: Reshaping the Mobile Communication Landscape".
The Critical Communication Association (TCCA): Mr. Kevin Graham
Mr. Kevin Graham, CEO of TCCA-Critical Communications showed the development path and technological evolution of standards in the Critical Communication Field with a presentation on "3GPP Standards and Certification for Critical Communications", providing reference for the implementation and promotion of 3GPP standards in Public Safety Operators, Utilities and Railway companies.
GSMA: Mr. Stephan Packer
GSMA Stephen Packer joined online to present the recent GSMA developments on eSIM technologies, focusing on the evolution of Consumer eSIM and the new IoT eSIM Standards recently released by GSMA, that are being introduced on GCF Certification.
Global Certification Forum (GCF): Mr. Roy Church
Mr. Roy Church, Global Certification Manager at Samsung Electronics and GCF Steering Group Chair, presented, on behalf of GCF Manufacturer members, the benefits of the GCF Certification Program for Device Manufacturers, emphasizing its value to manufacturers through cost reduction, faster time-to-market and improved brand recognition.
Ti Testing and Certification Group: Mr. Zidong Chen
Mr. Zidong Chen, Technical Director at the Communication & Connectivity Division of Ti Testing and Certification Group explained the company’s communication testing and certification services via five differentiation blocks: “Connection, Realization, Acceleration, Promotion and Expectation”.
Sporton International: Mr. Hendry Yang
Mr. Hendry Yang from Sporton International Inc. connected online to introduce their global laboratory network and increased used of AI in testing solutions, highlighted industry challenges, and advocated for collaboration and quality service to enhance GCF credibility.
Keysight Technologies: Mr. Muthu Kumaran
Mr. Muthu Kumaran, Senior Director & General Manager of Wireless Conformance at Keysight Technologies , presented highlights of upcoming 6G standards and stressed the future importance of automating 6G conformance testing, reducing test time, and simplifying procedures.
Datang Linktester: Mr. Zheng Yin
Mr. Zheng Yin from Datang Linktester Technology, part of CICT Mobile Communication Technology Company, presented New Technologies Trend for automotive industry, with a focus on Communications, Navigation, Antennas, C-V2X, Sparklink, eCall, NTN, Cybersecurity and even low-altitude flying vehicle testing.
The seminar promoted industry collaboration on 5G-Advanced and 6G, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to establish universal standards in mobile communications.
