Building on the results of the BroadMap and BroadWay projects, BroadEU.Net is now working towards the operationalizing of a pan-European mobile broadband system to enhance communication and coordination among emergency services during crises and disasters. This effort supports the establishment of the EU Critical Communication System (EUCCS).

Currently, 16 Member States are collaborating to develop the EUCCS, aiming to integrate communication networks of law enforcement and public safety responders across Europe. This integration will enable seamless communication and mobility within the Schengen area, bolstering public communication resilience and crisis response.

The re-elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted the importance of the EUCCS in the political guidelines (2024-2029) presented in her pre-election speech. The document states our united approach to security should be centred around a new European Critical Communication System to be used by public authorities in charge of security and safety. This will be part of our work to improve daily operational cooperation in the fight against terrorism and crime and in saving lives in emergency situations. This is outlined on page 15 of the new political guidelines published on July 18.
