T-Mobile US has been chosen by the U.S. Department of the Navy as a wireless solutions provider under the $2.67 billion Spiral 4 contract. This new agreement enables all Department of Defense agencies to order wireless services and equipment from T-Mobile US for the next ten years.

The Spiral 4 contract encompasses voice, data, fixed wireless solutions, Internet of Things (IoT), and mobility management solutions. T-Mobile highlighted that this contract will ensure reliable connectivity for government activities, including mission-critical communications, and provide network solutions for military personnel and federal civilian agencies.

Replacing the previous Spiral 3 contract, this new agreement reflects changes in industry standards and technological advancements. Since joining Spiral 3 in 2017, T-Mobile has expanded its range of services for government operations, introducing private 5G and hybrid networks tailored to the performance needs of government agencies.

Additionally, T-Mobile has launched “Government Internet,” a 5G fixed wireless solution that can serve as a primary internet connection or as unlimited backup. Looking ahead, government agencies may benefit from T-Mobile’s partnership with SpaceX, which aims to integrate T-Mobile’s network with Starlink’s satellite capabilities to provide near-universal connectivity.

In related news, Verizon Public Sector recently secured a $15 million task order with Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) through the federal government’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract vehicle. Under this order, Verizon will provide voice and data services at domestic and international locations, modernizing the Navy’s communications infrastructure from Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) to Ethernet.

Verizon has been awarded multiple contracts with the U.S. federal government. Last year, the Department of Defense awarded Verizon Public Sector nearly $1 billion in new business, including a $28.35 million contract for integrated voice and data services. More recently, Verizon secured a $2 billion, 15-year contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to design, build, operate, and maintain the FAA’s next-generation communications platform.
