The Pacific Games, a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania, took place in the Solomon Islands from November 19th to December 2nd. The biggest game the island nation has held to date, the Pacific Games 2023 drew over 5,000 athletes and thousands of spectators to the capital city of Honiara.

To bolster communications and safety in the capital during this significant event, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) upgraded its analog radio communications network to a Professional Digital Trunking (PDT) system. On top of the legacy network, the revamped system consists of multiple 4-carrier base stations, PDT handheld radios, a dispatch system, and outdoor solar power supplies. The new system provides the RSIPF with reliable communications support across all the 12 games venues and the ability to dispatch squads with real-time GPS tracking. The solar power supplies also ensure the system’s improved resilience.

“For mega events like the Sol2023, reliability is key. The new radio system significantly enhances the overall capacity of the whole network and the digital features it comes with also grant us the ability to dispatch and command when emergencies arise. It was truly a safe and spectacular Sol2023,” said Hopkins Javele, inspector of RSIPF radio department.

It’s worth noting that the new network continues to serve the city of Honiara after the event, contributing to a long-lasting safe community, backed by Hytera infrastructure and support.

“Hytera and the Oceania nations share a deep bond. It’s our honor to have served various events in this region, ranging from the Pacific Games 2015, APEC 2018, to the most recent Pacific Games 2023. We are proud to contribute to the unity and vibrancy of Oceania,” said Mars Li, Sales Director of Hytera ASEAN.
