Orange, an official partner and supplier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has announced that its Push-To-Talk (PTT) service will be prioritized over other voice traffic on its 4G network to ensure maximum reliability during the event. Bertrand Rojat, CTIO of Events at Orange, shared this information with media and analysts this week.

The prioritized PTT service is set to be utilized by event volunteers, the Olympic committee, security services, athletes and their teams, and health and safety personnel. While Rojat did not elaborate on the technical specifics of how this priority will be managed, he emphasized the importance of the service’s reliability.

“This is the first time a PTT service is being integrated over an operator’s existing mobile network for the Olympics,” Rojat stated, noting that previous events relied on proprietary TETRA networks for such services.

In addition to the PTT service, Orange is deploying a private 5G Standalone (SA) network for the event. This dedicated network, intended for broadcasters, athletes, and staff, will complement the existing commercial network. The private 5G SA network will be operational at key venues, including the Stade de France, Arena Bercy, Paris La Défense Arena, and the six-kilometer stretch of the Seine for the opening ceremony, as well as at the Marina de Marseille. This deployment aims to enhance connectivity throughout the games.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will feature 878 sports events, with nearly 10,500 athletes participating. There are currently 13.5 million ticket holders for the event.
