NSW Telco Authority is delighted to announce the support for the inauguration of the TPG Telecom – University of Technology Sydney Network Sensing Lab, a globally leading research facility.


Backed by the NSW Government, this collaborative endeavor between industry and academia is focused on advancing sensing technology utilizing 5G mobile networks. The innovative technology developed here enables real-time monitoring and prediction of floods and storms, enhancing the ability to manage and mitigate associated risks effectively.


During the opening event, insights were shared by notable figures including the Hon. Jihad Dib MP, Distinguished Professor Y Jay Guo, NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Commissioner Carlene York APM, and TPG Telecom’s Giovanni Chiarelli. They highlighted how this initiative will significantly enhance disaster response and resilience.


Utilizing the infrastructure of the existing 5G mobile network, this project has the potential to save lives by greatly improving decision-making for first responders and public warning systems utilized by NSW SES.
