5G campus networks as an important building block for the digital transformation: Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport, Building and Digitalisation, visited HMF Smart Solutions to find out more about innovative 5G communication solutions “engineered in Lower Saxony”.

He discussed the importance of 5G campus networks for Lower Saxony’s economy with the experts for professional mobile communications. “HMF and Olaf Lies have enjoyed a friendly and trusting relationship for many years. We appreciate his high level of expertise and his commitment to supporting HMF as a company in Lower Saxony,” said CEO Martin Hucke, who was delighted with the minister’s visit to Eimbeckhausen.

HMF’s own 5G campus network for practical testing

HMF develops state-of-the-art communication solutions in its own Innovation Competence Centre and operates a 5G campus model network – which is available to companies from all sectors at any time for practical testing and the development of customised applications. HMF and the Lower Saxony Minister agree: small and medium-sized companies in particular can benefit from setting up their own 5G campus networks – and thus set an important milestone for the digital transformation in Lower Saxony.

Bernhard Klinger, Chief Public Affairs & Governmental Relations Officer: “Thanks to the flexibility of 5G, 5G campus networks enable the application-specific transmission of data and thus improve productivity, efficiency and security in companies. This helps them to remain innovative, adapt quickly to changing market conditions and become more competitive.” The Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs supports companies in setting up private 5G campus networks. “HMF is happy to provide support with the application process if required,” added Klinger.

Minister Lies also expressed his interest in the COBRA-5G research project funded by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), in which HMF is working with other partners to analyse the protection of 5G networks against cyber-attacks and unforeseen incidents. He emphasised the importance of research and development as a driver for market success and highlighted that findings from such projects will give HMF a valuable head start.

HMF – Hidden Champion from Lower Saxony

As a specialist for secure and high-availability communication solutions, HMF can now draw on more than 40 years of experience and development work and incorporate this expertise into the latest broadband projects. “HMF Smart Solutions is one of our hidden champions in rural areas in Lower Saxony. I think it is absolutely remarkable that this medium-sized company is successful worldwide and has even realised nationwide radio networks, for example most recently for the Dutch police and rescue services,” said Minister Lies, who was noticeably impressed.
