The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) renewed the First Responder Network Authority’s (FirstNet Authority) Band 14 spectrum license, in accordance with requirements laid out in the Spectrum Act. Renewal of the Band 14 license is necessary for the continued operation of FirstNet, the nationwide public safety broadband network. The license renewal is valid for 10 years from the expiration of FirstNet’s initial license, which occurred in November 2022, or for the remaining period of the FirstNet Authority’s authorization from Congress, whichever is sooner.

The FirstNet Authority issued the following statement regarding the renewal:

The FirstNet Authority is pleased to have its Band 14 spectrum license renewed, which will allow public safety to have uninterrupted access to advanced broadband services, capabilities, and features to better serve communities nationwide. We appreciate the FCC’s careful consideration of our license renewal application and recognition of the FirstNet program’s achievements. The FirstNet Authority will continue to work diligently to further innovate and grow the network to ensure it consistently meets public safety’s needs.
