Airbus introduced the Virve2, Filand's nationwide next-gen public safety network, which is shared by Finnish police, fire brigades, defence froces, frontier guards, customs, social and helath services, ambulances, civil defence, civial aviation and a variety of enterprises responsible for critical infrastructure. The new generation Virve 2 will provide broadband services and today's Virve network will work seamlessly with Virve 2 in the evolution phase.
Finnish public safety organizations rely on Virve, the nationwide TETRA radio communications network, for their critical operations. Now, with the Virve 2 project, Erillisverkot, the operator of Virve, is elevating mission-critical communication to a whole new level.
The Virve 2 project was launched in 2018 to meet the demands of modern applications and circumstances. Leveraging 4G/5G technology, this initiative aims to deploy public safety mobile broadband services. Virve 2 adopts a shared network model, with primary MNO, Elisa, sharing its network between regular customers and Virve 2 users. Prioritized services through 4G/5G's Quality of Service, prioritization, and pre-emption functions ensure seamless and reliable communication for public safety professionals, even during high network traffic.
The migration period, starting in 2023, will see both Virve TETRA and Virve broadband services available. The Agnet solution will integrate into the TETRA system and broadband services, facilitating smooth group communication between different devices and technologies.
Looking ahead, Virve 2 envisions a future with cutting-edge services like IoT, AI, AR, drones, and robotics, enhancing operational efficiency and collaboration among users. Ensuring the safety of first responders remains paramount in these advancements.
